14 August 2007 01:34

I have added an email address obfuscator to my Tools section. Full details are on the page linked above. Basically, email address obfuscation is a technique you can use to hide your email address from spammers.

Photo Mosaics

24 June 2006 22:30

Sample photo mosaicI’ve found a great piece of freeware for creating photographic mosaics. It’s by a guy called Andrea Denzler and is available to download on his website, AndreaPlanet.com. There are a collection of images supplied with the program, or you can use your own photographs as the individual tiles in the mosaic.

The image on the left is a mosaic I’ve just created using this software. I used a photograph of my daughter Katie when she was about 16 months old. Each tile in the mosaic is a small photo of Katie.

I’ve uploaded it to PhotoBox and ordered an A2-sized poster; it should look good on the living room wall :)

.htaccess Password Protection

16 June 2006 18:15

I’ve added a .htaccess password generator to my Tools section. You can use this to generate the encrypted username/password string required for .htpasswd files. There are also instructions on what to add to your .htaccess file in order to protect a directory.

I hope you find it useful :)

Gmail Invites Available

31 May 2006 18:58

Gmail screenshotI know the whole “Gmail invite” thing is getting a bit old now, but Gmail (or Google Mail as it is now known in the UK) is still classed as beta and new accounts are only available via an invitation.

I have 95 89 invites available, so if you or anyone you know would like one please either email me or add a comment to this post and I’ll give them away on a first come, first served basis.

Gmail is a great webmail application and I’ve now switched from using a desktop POP email client (Mozilla Thunderbird) to using Gmail exclusively. Currently Google are giving away 2729MB of storage space with each account and this is steadily increasing. You can search through your messages using a Google search box, it has decent spam protection and it’s completely free. There are loads more really cool features – visit the Gmail website to find out more.

The Rasterbator

30 May 2006 12:19

The Rasterbator is a fantastic piece of software that can be used to create rasterised versions of images. The results can be printed onto many sheets of paper that can be assembled to create huge posters up to 20m in size!

Sample 'Rasterbated' image

The Rasterbator is completely free and can be downloaded from http://arje.net/rasterbator. I’d really like to thank Matias Ärje for creating this very cool piece of software. Keep up the good work!
