One of the most common uses of .htaccess files is protecting directories on your website from prying eyes. In order to view files or directories, users must first enter an authorised username and password. This involves two small text files containing around 5 lines between them: .htaccess and .htpasswd.
The entries for these files are straightforward, although the .htpasswd file requires a line containing a username and an encrypted password. You can use the form below to generate the line needed for this file. (Instructions for the other file will also be provided).
